How to Make Fun Lollipop Stick Puppets

If your child is like most children, they love sweets. If they’re like many children, they also play with their food. You can teach your child how to make fun lollipop stick puppets and they can do both.

There are actually a few ways you can make lollipop stick puppets. One way is to use only the stick which can be purchased at crafts stores in the candy making supplies. You can also use the stick after your child has eaten a sucker, but it will be messier.

Using a pen or marker, draw a face on the lollipop stick – eyes, nose and mouth. As the lollipop stick isn’t that large, use a small-tipped pen or marker. Be sure to leave a little space at the top so you can add hair.

Make hair for your puppet by shredding tissue or using yarn. Glue this onto the top of the stick and down the side a little to ensure it stays on. You can dress your puppet by cutting out clothes shapes out of paper. Decorate the clothes by drawing details, using stickers or gluing sequins on them. Tape or glue the paper clothes on the stick.

Another way to make lollipop stick puppets is to actually use the whole lollipop. Cut out squares, about 5 inches square, of muslin or another lightweight fabric. Wrap this around the top of the lollipop and tie it off with raffia or yarn. Glue yarn or doll hair on the top and then draw a picture on the fabric.

You can create clothes in the same way as above. Create a whole neighborhood of lollipop stick puppets out of these suckers and your children can have fun playing. When the fun is over, they can eat the lollipop.

Finally, children sometimes get the large lollipops which are several inches across. You can create faces on these lollipops by piping royal icing or frosting onto them. Make faces, put hair on them, and use the icing as glue to stick on various candies to make the puppets unique.

Use different sizes of lollipops to create an entire family of lollipop stick puppets. Of course, if you make puppets out of the smaller lollipops, you’ll want to use mini candies so they aren’t too big for the lollipop. Let your children have fun making faces out of these candies.

Once the puppets are complete, have your children put on a play using the puppets. When the puppet show is over, the children can enjoy the fruits of their labor, literally, as they eat the puppets.

Now that your children know how to make fun lollipop stick puppets, don’t be surprised if they ask you to buy more lollipops so they can put on other plays.
